  2. 对不起我的中文不好
    (Dui Bu Qi 對不起我的中文不好)

Sorry my Chinese is not good
    Transition 前進樂團

So me and my friends will be singing this for our University’s Chinese New Year Celebrations! The song is sung by an English group based in Taiwan. This means that the song is in Mandarin, but the lyrics are in Traditional Chinese. However, I have converted it into Simplified Chinese and have added the pinyin below as well as the translation.

    Chorus:
    对不起我的中文不好,
    对不起对不起,
    我不知道你说什么,
    对不起我的中文不好,
    对不起对不起,
    我只想跟你当朋友。

Duìbùqǐ wǒ de zhōngwén bù hǎo,
    duìbùqǐ duìbùqǐ,
wǒ bù zhīdào nǐ shuō shénme,

    duìbùqǐ duìbùqǐ,
wǒ zhǐ xiǎng gēn nǐ dāng péngyǒu.

Sorry, my Chinese is not so good!
    Really sorry,
    I don’t understand what you’re saying!
Sorry, my Chinese is not so good!
    Really sorry,
I just want to be friends!

    Verse 1:
    Hello, 你好吗?
    你的英文好好听。
    你是美国人么?
    並不是美国人!
    我是一位英国绅士
    如果你專心听,
    你会了解我!

    Hello, nǐ hǎo ma?
    Nǐ de yīngwén hǎohǎo tīng.

    Are you American?

    I’m an English gentleman!
    Listen carefully
    And you’ll understand me!

    Chorus:
    对不起我的中文不好,

  3. 对不起我太忙了

    Heya guys,

I’m so sorry but I am just so busy now that university has resumed again: I have two jobs (about to have start my third!) and I am in 7 committees as well as studying for my degree! I will try and post from time to time, but I won’t be posting daily until April.

However, I am currently working on a performance that me and my classmates that are studying Mandarin are working on for a Chinese New Year celebration on Monday - I will post it in the next post!

So sorry - expect more in a few months!

    Clara

  4. Photos of Hong Kong #035: Ching Chung Koon (Green Pine Temple), Tuen Mun

(Traditional: 青松觀, Simplified: 青松观, pinyin: qīngsōng guān) If you have been following my posts then you should have seen that I took the light rail - and this is where we ended up. This Taoist temple was such a lovely place to look at - plenty of traditional Chinese architecture.

  5. Chinese Food #035: Glutinous Rice Bun (潮式糯米卷)

(Simplified: same, pinyin: Cháo shì nuòmǐ juǎn) They are like the bbq pork buns, but they are filled with glutinous (sticky) rice instead.

  6. Photos of Taiwan and Taiwanese Food #018: Rice and Pork Shao Mai (Dumplings)

Traditional Chinese: 糯肉燒賣, Simplified: 糯肉烧卖 (pinyin: nuò ròu shāomai) his was the first time I’ve tried these - and they were so delicious! (Hmm maybe I should stop posting photos of food on an empty stomach…) This is of a Shanghai origin.

  8. Photos of Hong Kong #034: Penjing/Penzai (Bonsai)

You guys probably know these miniature trees as bonsai, which is a Japanese word - in Chinese these are called penjing, 盆景 (literally meaning tray scenery) or penzai, 盆栽 (literally meaning tray plant). Saw these on the way to Ching Chung Koon (Green Pine Temple)!

  9. Chinese Food #034: Tofu in soya sauce

Rather than being a meat substitute, in HK they are a dish of it’s own. I’m not a big fan of it but we eat it nevertheless.

  10. Photos of Taiwan & Taiwanese Food #017: Xiao Long Bao

The famous xiao long bao (小籠包 in traditional chinese, 小笼包 simplified) from the restaurant Din Tai Fung. These ones in particular are steamed and is filled with delicious pork and soup - just looking at these photos is making me hungry!

One method of transportation in Hong Kong. Used in the North-Western part of Hong Kong, in the New Territories.

  13. Chinese Food #033: Fish Shaped Steamed Dumplings

Unlike other dumplings this one uses rice wrapping, which makes it transparent. This particular restaurant even made them look like cute fish!

  14. Photos of Taiwan & Taiwanese Food #016: Din Tai Fung

(Traditional Chinese: 鼎泰豐, Simplified Chinese: 鼎泰丰) This was definitely one of my highlights whilst being in Taiwan: a restaurant whose speciality was xiao long bao (dumplings, 小籠包 traditional, 小笼包 simplifed). Expects photos of the food tomorrow!
